France’s importance within the world of electronic music cannot be understated, but to the wider public the sound which has emanated from the streets of Paris over the past twenty years may start and end with a certain robotic duo. But Bambounou has long been a flagbearer for a French touch that looks beyond its borders, taking influence from all four corners of the globe to create something truly unique. As a producer his music fuses the dark atmosphere of Berghain at 6am with the energy of dancehall, and as a DJ, his sets span everything from classic disco to Detroit techno via, well, anything you could possibly think of.
He’s a producer who owes his diverse music tastes to his dual heritage and been embraced by some of Europe’s greatest tastemakers and released on some of the continents most pivotal labels. Hyperdub, ClekClekBoom, Sound Pellegrino and Modeselektor’s 50WEAPONS (RIP) are just a few of the imprints to have released dancefloor material from the Parisian producer. Set to appear alongside Jackmaster, The Martinez Brothers, Peggy Gou and many more at the In:Motion opening party on Friday 29th September, Bambounou’s global inspirations will take centre stage. Until then, here’s a short rundown of what he has in store.
1, Tiger – When
This is easily my favorite track of the moment, I can’t help but listen to it every morning. I know that one day I’ll get the chance to play it in a club, but I’m not really sure when.
2, Yuri Jones – Same dude
Another track I’m hooked on at the moment. I think I liked it even more after seeing that little kid on YouTube sing it with his friends in his mom’s car. Good vibes.
3, L.A. Synthesis – Harmonic Disassembly
The bass on this is so groovy, but the best part of this track is the weird synth that runs through it. That cool, high envelope filter makes my spine chill. So cold…
4, Aleksi Perälä – 214_H_II
A little afternoon delight.
5, JASSS – Theo Goes Away
JASSS’s debut LP on iDEAL Recordings is sick af, go cop it.
