What DJ’s Play: Darkzy

By all estimations, within the world of bassline and club tracks that put any sound-system through their paces, 2017 has been Darkzy’s year. While you can trace his musical lineage back to the age of 12, his brother first introducing him to DJ EJ’s Ejucation mix series, Darkzy first hit mass attention with a bootleg of Drake’s ‘One Dance’ back in 2016. Since then, and after over 2 million plays on that one track alone, Darkzy leading the force in a new wave of UK bassline.

He’s long represented his hometown of Nottingham, the city he was born and raised in, but before he heads south to appear alongside Shy FX, Congo Natty, Chris Lorenzo and many more at In:Motion’s The Blast Halloween show on 27th October, we find out what records the midlands’ bad man is loving at the moment.

Skepsis – Goes Like (VIP)

Absolute banger, it’s very unique and ahead of its time. It’s an ultimate crowd pleaser. The first time I heard this played was after Goof dropped it at Detonate Nottingham as a dub and the crowd were going nuts. I managed to get a copy of it after harassing Skepsis for weeks…

Distinkt – Chinatown (Claybrook Remix)

Sick tune. When I play it I always mix it in with the original to give it that element of surprise, and the crowd never expects the filth that’s about to hit them. I first heard this was Distinkt posted a preview on Lengoland and I immediately hit him up for a copy. The first time I dropped it in a club I never saw faces screw so hard. I have a collab coming soon with Claybrook too so keep an eye out for that…

Not3z – Aladdin (DevelopMENT Remix)

I received this just the other day, dropped it at Southbeats Festival in Kent over the weekend and the place absolutely erupted. It’s already one of my favorites of the year so far. DevelopMENT has a lot of bangers and he’s someone I’ve looked up to for a while.

Conducta Ft Deadbeat – Hurt You (Notion Remix)

Probably my favorite track of the year. The build-up, the synth, the melody, everything about the track is sick. Notion is an absolute badman too and has never made a below amazing tune. Every time I’ve dropped this track the vibes in the place go off.

Hadean Ft Bru-C – Don’t Wanna Know

If you want a quick wheel, drop this tune. It goes off absolutely anywhere and everywhere. It’s a sick beat from Hadean, and sick vocals from Bru-C (as expected).
