24 Aug Run vs Playaz
Bristol’s premier purveyors of drum & bass, Run, join forces with the mighty Playaz, the label, collective and party by DJ Hype and Pascal. In Bristol, drum & bass has become synonymous with Run, thanks to their years of putting on huge line-ups in intimate spaces, as well as their use of the legendary Dirt soundsystem. Playaz on the other hand, have been in the game for well over 20 years, their parties are known the world over and the label is behind some of jungle and drum & bass’ biggest anthems including Machete, Mr Happy and Bricks Don’t Roll to name just a few. With four rooms in effect for this one, it’s set to be one of the biggest parties of the year.
Room one is headed by a triumvirate of sets from the scenes biggest players. Man like DJ Hype can argue to be as influential as anyone in the scene, with 30 years of DJing under his belt and two Fabric mixes (FabricLive.03 and FabricLive.18 with Andy C), and it’s only right that he heads up proceedings. DJ Hazard joins, Hype’s one-time protégé and the first man outside of Ganja Cru signed to Playaz. When you add Krust and the absolute OG, Randall, to the mix, you get one of the biggest bills you’re likely to see this year. Throw in special guest Dimension, and you know the roof is coming off.
Low Down Deep take over room two, with label honcho Logan D and the superlative Majistrate heading the bill. With guests in Phantasy & SAS, plus some of the biggest MCs including Skibadee and Shabba, the party doesn’t let up next door. In room three Spearhead do exactly what it says on the tin with Shogun Audio’s Rockwell and Technimatic, delving through a richer liquid sound.
Keeping it fresh and local are DnB Kitchen in room four, with some of the most exciting, up-and-coming producers around, rounding off this massive show.
